Today (29 May 2014), Baltic Shipyard and Rosatom State Corporation concluded the construction contract for two serial nuclear icebreakers of Type 22220.
Therefore, today the Baltic Shipyard stock of orders has reached 150 billion roubles. The lead multipurpose nuclear icebreaker of Type 22220 (laid on 5 November 2013) is being built by Baltic Shipyard.
Thanks to their new design, the nuclear ships can be used both in the Arctic waters and in the mouths of the Arctic rivers. The icebreakers will be designed for guidance of vessel transporting hydrocarbons from the fields of the Yamal and Gydan peninsulas, and the Kara Sea shelf to the markets of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
