Kherson Shipbuilding Yard has launched the upgraded Alena dry-cargo vessel to be handed over to Shipchart. The vessel refitting project was designed by Maritime Engineering Bureau. The vessel was classified by the RMR - KM * L4 R2-RSN class after its upgrading.

Yantar Shipyard has launched the Seliger test vessel, the pilot order of the RF Ministry of Defense. The Project 11982 was developed by CMDB Almaz. Length: 59.7 m; beam: 10.8 m; draft: appr. 1117 tons; speed: 13 knots; cruising range: 1000 miles.

The Prime Minster have supported the initiatives of the Ministry of Transport to toughen the water transport regulations in Russia. After their implementation, the supervisory authorities will be able to inspect vessels for conformance to the navigation safety rules and regulations prior to navigation. It is anticipated that appropriate changes at the suggestions of the Ministry of Transport will be approved as early as autumn 2011.

Chinese shipbuilders rebuild the Varyag aircraft carrier purchased from Ukraine for further training of crews. In addition to the Varyag aircraft carrier, China has bought three decommissioned aircraft-carrying cruisers from Russia, i.e. Minsk, Kiev and Novorossiysk. Two of them have been converted into theme parks.

The Federal Agency for Transport Supervision proceeds with inspections of passenger vessels after the accident with the Bulgaria diesel-electric ship. These inspections are made along with the transport prosecutor;s office. Starting from July 11 this year, 96 vessels out of more than 700 inspected ones were arrested.

The Government of St. Petersburg has adopted a resolution to cancel a lease contract for a land plot on Novo-Admiralteysky Island concluded with Admiralty Shipyards. 28,205 square meters will be allocated for the construction of the Novo-Admiralteysky Bridge. Valentina Matvienko, Governor of St. Petersburg, signed the resolution.

Severnaya Shipyard has submitted the Soobrazitelny corvette for state trials. The hull and superstructure designs changed considerably during the implementation of the project. The Project 20380 was developed by CMDB Almaz. It is a conceptually new ship for the Russian Navy; its characteristics are by one order higher than the ones of the same class ships.
