Floating Nuclear Power Station Academic Lomonosov with Nuclear Fuel to Be Towed to Pevek by 1 August 2019

The time frames become known for two steps of towing the Floating Nuclear Power Station Academic Lomonosov.
Marine Rescue Service of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport will tow the Floating Nuclear Power Station Academic Lomonosov in two steps: from St. Petersburg to Murmansk and then to Pevek, according to Interfax with the reference to the data published on the public procurement web-site.

According to the draft contract, the price of the towing amounts to 474.7 million rubles. During the first step from 20 April till 20 May this year, the Floating Nuclear Power Station Academic Lomonosov without nuclear fuel will be towed from the territory of Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg (where it is being constructed) to the berth of Atomflot State Corporation in Murmansk. During the second step from 30 June till 1 August 2019, the Floating Nuclear Power Station with loaded nuclear fuel will be delivered from Murmansk to Pevek sea port.

The contract provides the towing train calculated speed to be 4.5 knots at the first step and 3.5 knots at the second step, with nuclear fuel. The contract also provides for the possibility of engaging a Russian Navy ship ("for physical protection of the floating nuclear power station against possible unauthorised access to the floating nuclear power station from the sea") for escorting the floating nuclear power station during the both steps of towing.
