Academic Alexandrov is already the third vessel of the basic type 20180. She was designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau for the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. The vessel was laid in December 2012. She is an oceanographic research vessel that will be used for research on the Arctic sea shelves to provide operation of arctic marine equipment and rescue operations in the Arctic region.
The main equipment of the oceanographic vessel consists of three cranes. Their capacity is from 2 to 100 tonnes. The crane design is made by St. Petersburg team and, as it was mentioned by the OEM representatives, it excels foreign analogues even an Italian heavy-duty crane installed on board the first vessel of the series.
Academic Alexandrov is 90 per cent ready. Now the exterior design works and interior installations are nearing completion. According to
Rossijskaya Gazeta, Academic Alexandrov is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2018.
