Second Type PKS-180 Golden Ring River Cruise Ship Keel Laid at Lotos Shipyard

The keel of the second type PKS-180 Golden Ring river cruise ship was laid at Lotos Shipyard (making part of United Shipbuilding Corporation). The ceremony coincided with the forthcoming professional holiday, namely, the Day of Shipbuilder. This was reported by the press-office of the Shipyard.

The ship's keel laying was attended by Jury Kazantsev, chief expert of the Civil Shipbuilding Department (United Shipbuilding Corporation), Igor Sadovnichy, interim CEO of Lotos Shipyard, Dmitry Galkin, CEO of Gama Group, Victor Lishchuk, CEO of
Nizhny-Volzhsky Branch of Russian River Register, and Astrakhan region authorities.

In January this year, the keel of the leading ship of this type was laid. Motor ships are being built under USC lease program for sea-going and river civil ships. The Customer is Goznak Leasing (making part of USC), while Volgaservis and Rechservis (members of Gama Group) will act as shipowners and operators.

"This project is of great importance, we've been underway with it for almost 12 years. Since 2007 we have started designing wheeled vessels. Three motor ships have been built within this period and nowadays they are successfully used in our country. I am very glad that today, the keel of the second Golden Ring ship will be laid at Lotos Shipyard", said Dmitry Galkin, CEO of Gama Group. He also congratulated factory workers on the upcoming professional holiday.

Igor Sadovnichy, Interim CEO, commented "Since the keel of the first type PKS-180 ship was laid, our shipyard has performed a great deal of preparatory and organizational work. Today we have started assembling the hull blocks. There are prefabricated 3 rd and 5 th bottom blocks being assembled on the slipway, the 2 nd and 6 th blocks are waiting for their turn. Work is underway to fabricate blocks of main deck, bulkheads and wings. We kicked off assembling a forward end of the 1 st block. We have also started steel cutting for the second ship. I hope, based on the first ship experience, the second one will be constructed faster."

The type PKS-180 Golden Ring ship is designed as a three-deck motor ship intended for carrying 180 passengers. LOA – 81.6 m, BOA – 13.83 m. Advanced solutions to provide high reliability and effective performance in shallow waters up to 1.2 m deep will be used for new tourist vessels. This gives the motor ships the marked advantage over existing river tourist fleet not being operated at these depths. In addition, computer-aid control of ship's motion and systems will make it possible to approach the unimproved shore. New type passenger ships will allow for expanding the geography of river cruises both in the European part of Russia and in Siberia and Far East regions.
