Russia will construct nature protection fleet after 2021 for 3,1 billion rubles

Construction of the nature protection fleet after 2021 for 3,1 billion rubles is included in the program of Arctic social and economic development, said the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Russian Federation Sergey Donskoy at a meeting of members of Russian Government Marine Board.
"The state program of Arctic social and economic development at the initiative of the ministry included a construction from 2021 for Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service of the nature protection fleet for ensuring ecological supervision in the seas and on the continental shelf with the amount of financing of 3,1 billion rubles", - said Donskoy.

According to him, such a fleet will increase safety of sea activity and will allow to level significantly possible environmental risks for marine ecosystems.

In one more way of reduction of environmental risks the minister called transition to use of vessels on the liquefied natural gas (LNG), or Green Shipping. At the same time he suggested to begin with the Northern Sea Route.

"Today construction of LNG ice breakers has already begun. The first LNG vessel - Polyaris was constructed on the Finnish ship-building shipyard Arktech belonging to the Russian USC. In turn the Ministry of Natural Resources within implementation of projects of the Arctic Council participates in creation of three river tankers on LNG for the Volgotrans company, - the minister added.

He has noted that the Ministry of Natural Resources also initiated the project on vessel construction and preparation of routes of GSHipping, safe from the point of view of ecology of the sea, under which at the expense of the Russian contribution to the Global Environment Facility of $10 million the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide a preferential credit line for 100 million euros which is frozen at present.
