An expert believes that investors from China, South Korea and Japan may be interested in developing ports on the Northern Sea Route.
Foreign companies may also invest in developing ports on the Northern Sea Route. That is the opinion shared with ТАСС by Dariana Maximova, the head of the Arctic Regional Studies master course at the North-Eastern Federal University.
"Russia doesn't restrict foreign vessels from sailing the Northern Sea Route. But in order to use this transport corridor regularly, we need funds for maintaining the infrastructure, including, possibly, foreign investments. Many countries show interest to the Northern Sea Route, primarily [...] China, South Korea, Japan," said Maximova.
Mikhail Grigoriev, a member of the Business Council at the State Committee for Development of the Arctic Zone believes that the mineral resources development projects have a paramount importance for the port infrastructure of the Northern Sea Root. "The mineral resource development projects of the Northern Sea Root are great importance; therefore, the infrastructure development will be mainly aimed at inflow of necessary materials and equipment for construction and operation of production facilities and at outflow of their products. Primarily, these are the Chaika terminal, Pevek port and probably Khatanga port. Along with further development of the Northern Yakut stronghold area, the Tiksi port may be in demand too," he said.
