Following the results of 2017 the volume of transportations across the Northern Sea Route is expected to be at the level of 10,2 million tons

As TASS with reference to the first deputy administrator of state-owned federal state Institution Administration of the Northern Sea Route Nikolay Monko reports, the volume of cargo transportation by the Northern Sea Route following the results of 2017 is expected to reach the level of 10,2 million tons. By December 1 9,6 million tons are already transported.
"By December 1, 2017 9,694 million tons of cargo are transported. It is a new record of transportation by the Northern Sea Route. We hope that by the end of 2017 the volume of cargo transportation will reach about 10,2 million tons. Taking into account that two gas tankers from the port of Sabetta will be loaded", - Monko said at a forum "Arctic: the present and the future" in St. Petersburg.

According to him, the ports of Dudinka and Sabetta transported the maximum quantity of cargo. "There is a complete confidence that in the following years the volume of cargo transportation by the Northern Sea Route will only grow", - he pointed out.

Earlier it was reported that the first record of cargo transportation by the Northern Sea Route was set up in 1987 when 6,578 million tons were transported.

In 2016 the volume of cargo transportation reached 7,5 million tons (growth by 38% in comparison with 2015 and for 87% - in comparison with 2014). The main part of growth fell into internal transportations, at the same time transit by the Northern Sea Route in 2015 grew by 5,5 times: from 39,6 thousand tons to 214 thousand tons (the maximum volume was reached in 2013 - 1,16 million tons).
